I tried to downgrade and the web upgrade does not seem to work for downgrades. I used the restore software.
Re-examining the ASUS firmware. Before diving into Merlin, I wanted to go back through the original Dark Knight review and take a look at what Tim reported as some of the missing or broken features to see if ASUS had fixed them. I upgraded the router to ASUS' latest 3.0.0.4.260 firmware and found that many shortcomings had indeed been fixed
I wish I had tried the stock so I had a comparison (I got rt-16u but uses same firmware as rt-66u almost). Tomato has a severe lack of documentaton as is the case with most voluntary software, the QoS doesnt work well for me and also severely restricts max throughput as is extra processing load, eg. when I enabled QoS I maxed out at 60mbit/sec even if limit set higher although the nt-66u with Jan 01, 2012 · I'm using a late '13 MBP Retina, just upgraded to OS X Yosemite, with a Asus NT-66U router. No problems with the 5GHz network until the upgrade to OS X Yosemite. 5GHz Channel now at 40 seems to give a solid connection. Thanks!
The ASUS supplied administration website is all very well, but for complete control you need to access the router's internals via a command prompt running inside the router. The most secure/powerful way is using the SSH protocol, but you have to start with insecure "telnet" as that's all ASUS ship with by default.
