OpenWRT is an active and vibrant home firewall project that was born on the Linksys WRT54G line of home routers. It has grown and expanded to support an amazing array of old and new hardware alike. After flashing back to the "baby's first openWRT" GUI that comes with that GL.inet router, I could get it setup, but that (propritary) GUI is still a blizzard of options that have no explanations smeared over 30 different config pages. OpenWRT is such a breath of fresh air to have after using the Netgear R6220 GUI for networking this past couple years. I was able to set up cake SQM easily after reading and watching a couple videos -- and my internet is fully operational and I'm getting A to A+ bufferbloat scores on DSLREPORTS now.
